People are busy and don’t have time to attend city council meetings but decisions made there can have a profound impact on their lives and pocketbooks. Decisions about tax levies, utility rates, infrastructure, public safety and even who can (or can’t) pick up your trash or how often you can water your lawn are made regularly. These issues are sometimes driven by special interests that don’t consider the cumulative impact they may have on taxpayers.
City council agendas are provided just two business days prior to council meetings and that makes it difficult for most people to stay adequately informed. Council packets frequently have hundreds of pages of documents to read through prior to a council meeting.
